FUTURE KIDS SCHEME

- Bengal has been the provider of champion tennis players to the country for decades. Some of the most prominent names are – Late Dilip Bose, Late Sumant Misra, Naresh Kumar, Jaidip Mukerjea, Premjit Lal, Akhtar Ali, Enrico Piperno, Zeeshan Ali, Syed Fazaluddin, Saurav Panja and Leander Paes.

- To identify and maintain the flow of champion material, as part of our development programme, Bengal Tennis Association has launched its maiden academy programme exclusively for  players from Bengal.

- The FUTURE KIDS SCHEME was discussed and approved at a development committee meeting held at the Bengal Tennis Association on 6th May 2011. The academy would ultimately be converted into a residential academy.

- Under this programme, the BTA has selected 12 (twelve) physically talented boys and girls from clubs and tennis centers all over Kolkata and neighboring districts, through a selection trial.

 

The selection trial of the FUTURE KIDS SCHEME was conducted, in the presence of:-

Mr. Jaidip Mukerjea (Former Davis Cup Captain, Player & Asian Champion)

Mr. Akhtar Ali (Ex-National Coach & Former Davis Cupper)

Mr. Chuni Goswami (Olympian Footballer)

Mr. Gary O’ Brien (Development Officer – BTA)

Mr. A.C. Khan (Director Technical – BTA)

BTA have adopted these young athletes and spends a substantial amount on  equipment, clothing, tennis coaching, fitness, participation in tournaments.

- To produce National and International Level players

- To give young tennis players in Bengal an opportunity to compete with the best players in the nation.

WHY FUTURE KIDS SCHEME 

- The success of any programme depends on the quality of base programmes.

-  Attitude, Technical changes and  development, tactical application, co-ordination, stroke formation, match play, mental training, self confidence and motivation all start and        are formed during the ages between 9-12.

- The ages from 9-12 are extremely important in the development of a tennis player.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE PROGRAMME

- ALL THE TRAINEES HAVE REACHED AT LEAST ONE FINAL OF AN ALL INDIA RANKING TOURNAMENT

- TWO NATIONAL CHAMPIONS IN THE UNDER 12 & UNDER 14

   VIKASH SINGH AND NITIN SINHA RESPECTIVELY

 - Since the inception of the FUTURE KIDS SCHEME in November 2011, all the selected players have performed at all levels of tournaments - Talent Series, Championship        Series, Super Series, National Series and Nationals. TWO NATIONAL CHAMPIONS IN VIKASH SINGH AND NITIN KR. SINHA IS THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE FUTURE            KIDS SCHEME. Besides, every single trainee has reached a final of an AITA ranking tournament.

 

Highlights

SWETA SAMANTA: (FUTURE KIDS SCHEME)

  • Was ranked no. 1 India the Girls u 12 as per the rankings dated 9th January 2017, released by the All India Tennis Association.
  • Was selected by AITA to represent India in the ITF Asian 12 & under Team Competition- South East Region Qualifying held in Nepal from 15th to 20th May 2017. Sweta steered the team to the finals beating Sri Lanka 3-0 and qualified for the Asian Finals to be held in Kazakhstan in November 2017.

Currently Ranked 3 as per the AITA rankings dated 29th May 2017.and Bengal Elite Programme Trainee Nitin Sinha topped the National Rankings as no. 1 in the Girls under 12 and no. 1 in Boys under 18 respectively

 

WYATT O’BRIEN: (FUTURE KIDS SCHEME)

  • Runner up in the Boys under 12 at Under 12 Nationals held in Mumbai, May 2017. Wyatt Partnered Arunava Majumder.
  • Started the year 2015 with no rank and steadily climbed in the rankings with some good performances winning singles titles in the AITA talent Series, Championships and Super Series in Kolkata, Ludhiana, Chandigarh and Imphal.
  • Currently ranked no. 7 in the boys under 12 AITA rankings as per the rankings dated 29th May 2017.

 

MEKHALA MANNA: (FUTURE KIDS SCHEME)

  • Finished the year 2016 as no. 4 in the girls under 12 and is currently ranked 15 in the AITA ranking as of 29th May 2017.
  • Reached the HCL Masters Final and was selected to attend a free training programme at the Mahesh Bhupati Tennis Academy in Kochi 2016.

The Future Kids Scheme which started in November 2011 is now on its 6th year . After reviewing the progress and Programme the Future Kids scheme for  the older group is now an incentive based scheme. 

 

THE INCENTIVE SCHEME:

Parents now pay for all the tournaments scheduled by the programme- BTA give players a cash scholarship from Quarter Finals onwards.

Tennis:

Tuesday 5:00 to 6:30pm

Thursday, Saturday & Sunday 8:30 to 11:30am

Wednesday & Friday – Special one hour Lessons:

7:30am & 2:30pm

Fitness:

Tuesday 3:30 to 4:30pm

Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 4:00 to 6:30pm

Sat & Sun 6:30 to 8:00am

Evaluations: Regular Goal Setting, Fitness tests, Match Evaluation, Mental Sessions on and off court, off court tactical sessions.

 

- Mr. Naresh Kumar has now taken over Nitin and Vikash. Vikash now trains in an Academy in Florida

- Rs. 46, 94,526 has been spent on this programme since Sept 2011 on equipment, travel, tournaments, and training.

- BTA’s contribution has been- Rs. 5.9 lacs-14.85 lacs per year

- Till Sept 2014 an amount of Rs. 16.81 lacs has been spent

- From 2015 an amount of Rs. 9.72 lacs has been spent

- Since 2014, Rs. 1.3 lacs has been given as incentives to Adrija Biswas, Punyatoya, Koyena Sircar and Satavisha Ghosh
