1. ROAD TO WIMBLEDON MASTERS:                             4TH TO 9TH April 2016

The Lawn Tennis Association of England, as a part of a promotional event for Wimbledon, organises the “HSBC Road to Wimbledon”. This programme, which started in 2014, is aimed at developing and identifying young talent in the age group of 14 and under and giving them exposure to play at Wimbledon and to interact with some of the Big Names from the Big W.

The success of the tournament in Kolkata in 2015 has initiated the “Road to Wimbledon” programme to host the 2016 Masters in Kolkata. The HSBC “Road to Wimbledon” Masters 2016 was held from 4th to 9th April in Kolkata at the Calcutta South Club.


Apart from these events a series of tennis clinics and parents interaction sessions were organised, which was headed and run by Paul Hutchins, tournament director and Dan Bloxham, Head Coach All England Club.


1. Tennis Clinic:                       Tuesday 5th April 2016 from 5:00 p.m.to 7:00 p.m. at Calcutta South Club

2. School’s Programme:          Wednesday 6th April from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at The Heritage


3. Parents Interaction:            Thursday 7th April 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Calcutta South Club

2. AITAL LEVEL 3 COACHES COURSE:                               24th to 30th April 2016

An AITA Level 3 Coaches Course was organised at BTA from 24th to 30th April 2016. The course was conducted by AITA Tutor Gary O’Brien. As per norms, since the course was conducted by a single tutor, maximum 11 candidates could attend the course. 9 coaches from Hyderabad, Bangalore, Rourkela and Kolkata attended the course.


3. SPECIAL ELITE PROGRAMME:                                                          May 2016

This programme started in May. Top players from the State now assemble and play together Tuesday to Sunday BTA.

Ishaque, Sanil and Yubrani from Ordnance Club

Neeraj, Abhinanshu and Shukrit from DI

Nitin, Arghya and Amrita from BTA

Anurag, Kemp, Adrija and Punyatoya also join in occasionally.

The programme is organised and run by Gary and Ronny. Players get together hit, play tactical oriented drills and matches. This programme now runs 6 days a week.


4. ROAD TO WIMBLEDON UK FINALS:                                               5th to 14th August 2016

Development Officer – Gary O’Brien was selected by AITA as Coach of the Indian U 14 team to the ‘Road to Wimbledon’ UK Finals, in 5th to 14th August 2016.


5. HIGH PERFORMANCE:                                                                        May 2011 to DATE

High Performance - There are 20 players participating in this programme. This programme runs Tuesday to Sunday in the morning from 8:00 to 11:30 a.m.

  • Coaches in HP- Gary Obrien, Ronny Sarkar, Harsh Gurnani, Saurav Panja, Md. Amin and Bapi Haldar.

8. ASIAN TENNIS TOUR: US $5000                                          7TH TO 14TH Nov’ 16

An initiative by the Asian Tennis Federation, exclusively for Asian men and women.

BTA hosted two legs of the Asian Tennis Tour, an International Event of US$ 5000 each.

The ATT an Asian Tennis Federation initiative was introduced in India in 2016 exclusively for Asians. BTA opted to run two such events for Men’s. The events were total prize money of US$ 5000 each. Central excise had agreed to run one and BTA ran and organised the 2nd ATT tournament. The dates of the ATT are 7th to 9th November 2016 and 11th to 3th November 2016 respectively. The ATT have replaced the ATP Challenger events thus keeping BTA on the international tennis map.

Nitin Sinha lost the Central Excise leg in the semis to Vishnu Vardhan and won the BTA leg beating Vishnu Vardhan in the finals.
